APEC Forum Questions

  • What is the APEC Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs Forum?

    The APEC Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs Forum is a China and Canada joint initiative that aims to bring together leading young entrepreneurs and new economy leaders from 21 APEC economies to share experiences and consider how to strengthen the capacity for innovation, entrepreneurship, trade and investment by young people in the context of the new economy. The main objectives of the Forum are to:

    1. Develop new relationships among leading young entrepreneurs and professionals from APEC economies.
    2. Discuss future APEC cooperation to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and development of human resources for the new economy.
    3. Share personal experiences in business and technology.
    4. Promote information and communication technologies (ICT).

  • When and where will the Forum take place?

    The APEC Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs Forum will take place in Beijing and Shanghai, China, from July 9 - 14, 2001.

  • What activities will be taking place during the Forum?

    The APEC Young Leaders Forum involves the following activities:

    1. Keynote addresses by leading Canadian and Chinese new economy figures

    - Building Common Prosperity by Meeting Challenges of Young Leaders
    - APEC Cooperation: Developing Tools for the New Economy

    2. Presentations by APEC members on their approaches to the promotion of entrepreneurship and innovation among youth in the new economy;

    3. Roundtable workshops on information and communications technologies in business and on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship;

    4. Field visits to relevant firms in the Shanghai area.

    The APEC Youth Festival is co-organized by the All-China Youth Federation, Beijing, China and the Institute for Leadership Development, Toronto, Canada.

Workshop Question

  • What themes will the workshops focus on?

    Two days of roundtable workshops will be offered, with each day devoted to a specific theme.

    Theme 1 - Information and Communications Technologies in Business
    o Sub-theme 1: Global Trading Opportunities in the Networked Economy
    o Sub-theme 2: How Does the Evolution of ICTs Challenge Business?

    Theme 2 - Human Resources for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
    o Sub-theme 1: Effective Policies to Promote Innovation & Entrepreneurship
    o Sub-theme 2: Leadership and Responsibility in the New Economy

    Both days will begin with a brief plenary session, where a speaker will introduce the theme.

VTS and I-Invest Questions

  • What is the Virtual Trade Show?

    The VTS is an online exposition of goods and services. Every participant attending the Forum will be provided with an online presence through which they can advertise and promote their company to other Forum participants. Delegates will be able to view the VTS booths of fellow participants, and thereby plan their networking strategy and meeting schedule in advance.

    Every young leader/entrepreneur attending the Forum will be provided with an online presence through which they can advertise and promote their company to other Forum participants.

  • What is i-Invest?

    i-Invest is a tool to search through existing investment related knowledge provided by the countires to which it pertains. It is possible to browse through international investment profiles, and identify those countries that fulfill your economic and technical requirements.

  • What will happen to the VTS and i-Invest when the APEC Forum has completed?

    The Virtual Trade Show and i-Invest will continue to exist after the event to provide participants with an online forum for continued interaction.

    Travel and Cost Questions

  • Is there a fee for attending the Forum? ]

    There is no registration or participation fee for the APEC Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs Forum. Food, accommodation, and local travel within China are fully covered by the conference organizers.

  • What costs am I responsible for?

    Each participant is responsible for his or her own international travel arrangements, insurance, visa costs, and other miscellaneous items required to attend the event.

  • Is there any financial assistance available to delegates?

    Funding is available for international travelers. Please contact your local coordinator for more details. For a list of local coordinators please click here.

  • How can I apply for an entry visa to China?

    Once the selection process is finalized, an acceptance letter will be issued to those participants who have been selected. Delegates should contact the Embassy of P.R. China for visa application. They may have to present the acceptance letter to the Embassy officials to support the invitation.

    Registration and Selection Questions

  • Who can participate the APEC Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs Forum?

  • Each APEC economy will have a delegation of up to 10 people of which 3 should be women. Every delegation should consist of young entrepreneurs and new economy leaders under the age of 40, with proven skills in developing businesses or in the development and application of science and technology.

  • Who will review and select the delegates for the APEC Forum?

    Once your application has been submitted, it will be forwarded to an APEC Forum local coordinator. Each local coordinator is responsible for reviewing and selecting the participants who will make up the delegation. To view your local APEC Forum coordinator, please click here.
